Sports and Recreation

From its city parks to the natural beauty of Folsom Lake, Folsom provides plenty to do, from hiking, biking and horseback riding to swimming, soccer, and skateboarding.

Water Sports

The 18,000-acre Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is the most popular multi-use year-round offering in the California State Park System. In addition to water sports, it offers hiking, biking and picnicking. Folsom's Lembi Park is the site of the Lembi Aquatic Center, which features an Olympic-sized pool. Lake Tahoe is a popular day-trip destination. In less than two hours, you can find yourself water skiing or relaxing on the beach in scenic Lake Tahoe.

Snow Sports

No, it doesn't snow in Folsom, but nearby Lake Tahoe, in addition to being a popular destination for water recreation, is one of the top alpine skiing spots in the country. Two of the resorts nearest to Folsom are Heavenly at Tahoe, the largest year-round resort, and Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, which offers value-oriented day-use packages. Lake Tahoe is also great for other winter sports, including cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, sledding and ice-skating.

Organized Sports

Folsom's Park and Recreation Department has won numerous awards for its offerings. There are about 30 parks, many of which boast stunning views for picnics and quiet walks; others support every sport imaginable from baseball to skateboarding (there is a new BMX Skateboard Park in East Folsom) to tennis to roller hockey. The recreation department offers a myriad of classes for both children and adults, ranging from pottery to ballet to "Itty Bitty Sports."
